Blizzard Announces Diablo 4 Has Gone Gold

Sanctuary opens on June 6, 2023.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced on Twitter that Diablo 4 has gone Gold. The news comes 50 days before Diablo 4 officially releases worldwide on June 6, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Diablo 4 is the upcoming action role-playing game from Blizzard Entertainment and the fourth main installment in the Diablo series. Following the Open Beta periods during the weekends of March 17 and 24, Blizzard has already introduced a variety of fixes and changes to Diablo 4 based on player feedback. These changes will all be present in the version of the game launching on June 6.

What does Diablo 4 going Gold mean?

When a game goes Gold, it means development on the game is finished and ready to be delivered. Going Gold is also known as release to manufacturing (RTM) in a software release life cycle.

The term was primarily used prior to the digital distribution age when full games were burned to a CD-R master disc and ready to be shipped to retailers and sold in stores. The gold master was usually Gold in color, hence the term. The terminology is still used today despite most games being distributed digitally.

After a game goes Gold, the development team will continue improving upon the game, fixing bugs, and implementing changes that will be rolled out on the day one patch.
