Silent Hill: Ascension, A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure “Game”

Silent Hill Ascension is the latest Silent Hill project, with companies like Genvid, Bad Robot Games, and Behaviour helping with its development.

It’s not often that a game touts to be an “entirely new” experience, as it feels like most game genres have been done and re-done to death. However, that’s exactly what Bad Robot, Genvid, and Behaviour Interactive hope to accomplish with their upcoming title, Silent Hill Ascension, set to release in 2023. The new game has been touted as a new interactive experience, where players will watch a livestream and vote on decisions rather than actively engaging with the game on their PCs or consoles. But will the end result live up to the hype? Here’s what we know so far about Silent Hill: Ascension

What is Silent Hill Ascension?

Silent Hill Ascension is not your typical video game; rather, it’s an interactive stream where the viewers vote to make decisions that affect the game’s outcome, much like other horror games like The Quarry and The Walking Dead series by Telltale Games. However, rather than actively playing the game, users will tune in on the livestream and vote with fellow viewers.

CEO of Genvid, Jacob Navok, describes the game as:

A live real-time interactive series where millions of fans will watch together as the chilling story unfolds. You can change its outcomes, and even be a part of scenes. There is no reset button.

In addition, he goes on to say that this entry in the Silent Hill series is part of the game’s canon, meaning that players will get to shape the future of Silent Hill media.

Silent Hill Ascension Trailer

To be fair, the latest official trailer for the game doesn’t do much in terms of explaining how the actual game will work. It does, however, showcase some of the game’s terrifying scenes and graphics — which look pretty amazing.

Chris Amaral, Art Director at Bad Robot Games, said:

We’ve gone the extra mile to create a dreamlike world in SILENT HILL: Ascension ‎with disturbing, hyper-detailed characters, other-worldly monsters, immersive atmospheres, and an overall audio and visual design that our team is very proud of.

The game’s creators have remained pretty tight-lipped on when the “experience” will officially launch, but we’ll update you in our news section
