Worms Hits Living Rooms with Upcoming Board Game

Worms: The Board Game will start its Kickstarter campaign in August.

With the recent announcement of the Meta Quest 3, it’s always nice to see companies going in the direct opposite direction and making physical games. Even more impressive than a boxset for a game, Team17 and Mantic Games are teaming up to bring Worms fans a board game this summer.

The Worms game will officially be dubbed Worms: The Board Game, a tabletop variation of their highly-popular 2D title. Michael Pattison, the CEO of Team17 Digital, said:

The Worms brand has played a huge part in Team17 Digital’s success for nearly 30 years, and we’re really excited that our wriggly critters will be shortly battling away on tables around the world. We’ve worked closely with Mantic Games for some time to ensure the Worms experience is wholly encapsulated as a tabletop game, and we’re looking forward to the crowdfunding campaign starting in a few months’ time!

Mantic is a tabletop company based in the UK that has created board games for popular gaming titles like HellboyMars Attacks, and The Walking Dead. Ronnie Renton, CEO of Mantic Games, said:

Worms: The Board Game is shaping up to offer all of the addictive, tactical gameplay and laugh-out-loud moments that you’d expect! We love the videogame series, and it’s an absolute joy to bring this feel-good experience to the tabletop for Worms fans everywhere to enjoy with their family and friends.

More details will emerge once the Kickstarter campaign goes live in August. The game has a planned 2024 retail launch, which should coincide with the leadup to the Worms series’ 30th anniversary in 2025.
