Amnesia Gameplay Trailer Showcases Atmospheric Horror

Sometimes the scariest things are what you don't see.

Amnesia: The Bunker, the upcoming first-person horror-survival game developed by Frictional Games, just released a new gameplay trailer showcasing 10 minutes of claustrophobic footage.

Amnesia: The Bunker, the upcoming survival horror game, has given players a sneak peek into what they can expect when the game releases on May 23, 2023. Unlike other titles of the same ilk, Amnesia has traditionally ditched jump scares for more atmosphere-building, and it looks like the latest title in the franchise will follow suit.

In the game, players will assume the role of Henri Clément, a soldier navigating the creepy interiors of a French bunker crawling with beasts and monsters. With a semi-open world and winding, dimly-lit corridors, Amnesia accomplishes this sense of tension via atmosphere building rather than jump scares.

With what looks to be a multitude of mind-bending puzzles, Amnesia: The Bunker will follow the same (but effective) formula in tasking the players with discovering clues and items that will push them forward in the game’s narrative. Some of these will require ingenuity and critical reasoning and may not be apparent initially.

The demo ends with our protagonist going up against a massive monster in the shadows — a pretty good summation of the type of horror you will experience when the game releases later this month.

Amnesia: The Bunker will release on May 23, 2023, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, and PlayStation 4.
