Frictional Games has announced the delay of its highly anticipated title, Amnesia: The Bunker. Originally slated for release on May 16, the game is now set to launch on May 23, 2023, on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.
According to Frictional Games, the delay is due to the developers wanting to polish the game and to avoid releasing the title during a busy week when multiple other games are hitting the market. While not mentioned by name, we can guess that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which releases on May 12, and Atlas Fallen, releasing on May 16, 2023, are two large titles the developers wanted to avoid.
The new installment in the Amnesia series promises to transform the horror survival genre, emphasizing player freedom and exploration in a semi-open world. Players will explore a French bunker as Henri Clément, a sole-surviving soldier, and attempt to escape the otherworldly Beast that prowls its tunnels and corridors. With a focus on player choice and an unscripted environment that changes with each playthrough, Amnesia: The Bunker is one game we have an eye on.
Frictional Games is a small independent game developer known for horror themes and narrative experiences. The studio has developed the Penumbra Series, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, SOMA, and Amnesia: Rebirth.
Hopefully, the additional week will let the developers finalize any last-minute tweaks and let the game truly shine among all of the other big name releases.
Amnesia: The Bunker is listed on Steam and can be wishlisted.
