Apple Vision Pro Working With Unity on Mixed Reality Games

Apple recently announced it is working with Unity to bring groundbreaking video games to the new Apple Vision Pro.

Apple unveiled its first mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro, during the WWDC 2023 keynote. This revolutionary device is designed to blend the digital and physical worlds, offering an immersive experience that enables players to adjust their display. In terms of gaming, this will also be a major competitor to the PSVR 2 and Meta Quest 3, just announced on June 1.

Apple Vision Pro Key Features and Specs

The Vision Pro is powered by visionOS, an all-new operating system designed specifically for this device. The operating system introduces a three-dimensional interface, allowing users to scale and place apps wherever they wish. The experiences in Vision Pro aren’t constrained to the boundaries of a display, and environments can extend beyond your physical space.

The device features a passthrough video of a wearer’s eyes, a feature Apple calls “Eyesight,” providing different feedback to surrounding people about what the user is viewing inside the headset. It uses a lenticular OLED display to show the correct perspective to anyone viewing the wearer.

The Vision Pro also introduces a new spatial audio system that provides ambient sound. It can match the sound to an environment using audio ray-tracing. The headset contains the M2 chip paired with a new R1 chip dedicated to real-time sensor processing.

The headset also features a 3D camera, marking Apple’s first foray into 3D video with spatial audio. This allows for a cinematic video viewing experience that can scale the screen beyond the dimensions of your room.

User Interaction and Control

Users can interact with the Vision Pro using a combination of their eyes, hands, and voice. It uses eye tracking and finger tapping, and flicking to scroll or select. The device also allows users to connect to their Mac and expand its display in a virtual space, including alongside apps running on Vision Pro itself. Unlike other popular VR and AR headsets, there is no need for controllers with the device.

Design and Comfort

The entire front of the headset is made of polished glass that flows into a lightweight aluminum frame. The top of the headset features a button and a digital crown. It has a modular system to achieve an optimal fit. For those who wear glasses, Apple has designed magnetic prescription glass inserts.

The headset’s battery is separate and links via a magnetic connection to the side of the headset. The sides of the headset feature Apple Audiopods.

Apple Vision Pro Price and Availability

Apple’s Vision Pro starts at $3499, and it will be available in early 2024. Initially, it will be available in Apple retail stores in the US only.

The Vision Pro represents a significant step forward in Apple’s push into the realm of augmented and virtual reality. As the tech giant continues to innovate, it’s clear that the future of technology is not just on our screens but all around us.
