Bayonetta’s Original Voice Actress Protests Low Pay

Taylor was "insulted" by the offer

Bayonetta’s original voice actress, Hellena Taylor, is urging fans to boycott the game after receiving a low-pay offer. In a post on Twitter, Taylor said that she was offered “a fraction” of what she was paid for the first Bayonetta game. “I’m not sure what the going rate is for voice work these days, but I know it’s more than a fraction of what I made last time,” Taylor said. “I have a family to support and this just isn’t acceptable.” Taylor said she was “disheartened” by the offer and that she “really wanted to be a part of Bayonetta” “I’m so sorry to the fans,” she said. “I hope you understand.”

The Bayonetta Actress Was Only Offered $4000

For reprising her role in the upcoming Bayonetta 3, which releases on October 28, 2022, Taylor stated that she was only offered a flat rate of $4000 for the role.

In regards to the offer that Taylor called “insulting,” she stated,

“As an actor, I trained for a total of seven and a half years – three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Lambda with voice coach Barbara Berkery, and four and a half years with the legendary Larry Moss in Los Angeles. And what did they think this was worth? What did they offer to pay me? The final offer to do the whole game as a buyout, flat rate, was $4,000 USD.”

The Bayonetta franchise, which made over 450 million dollars, is widely popular among its fanbase. Taylor goes on to say,

“I am asking the fans to boycott this game and instead spend the money that you would’ve spent on this game donating it to charity.”

While it has certainly made some waves in the gaming community as far as losing the original English voice actress for Bayonetta, it stands to be seen if this will impact the sales of the game when it releases later this month, but as Taylor states: “Bayonetta always stands up for those with less power and what is right. In doing this, you stand with her.”
