Pushing Back on Toxicity in Game Development

One of the larger parts of the announcement today is executive leadership’s vision for the future of Blank. Focusing more on innovation and creativity, the company hopes to do away with the traditional crunch culture that has pervaded many development teams.

Mateusz Kanik, Blank. Co-founder and Game Director said:

Where the industry champions a dictatorship of the creative individual, we want to give ownership to the team. Where the industry leans on crunch culture, we prefer work-life balance. Where the industry says bigger is better, we’re setting our sights on highly polished games with a focus on emotion, story, and craftsmanship.

This sentiment is shared across the leadership team, with Jędrzej Mróz, Blank. Co-Founder and Executive Producer stating:

Over our many years of making games, we’ve seen the importance of marrying inspiring ideas with well-defined scope, that’s supported by a strong team and realistic budget. We’re committed to quality craftsmanship and running the studio in a sustainable way; we plan to increase our projects’ scope as we expand the team and its capabilities.

Blank’s co-founders include Mateusz Kanik, former game director of Cyberpunk 2077 and co-game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well as Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow, both with executive producer credits on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, who will join as Executive Producers. The team also includes other well-known names in the industry, like Mikołaj Marchewka and Michal Dobrowolski.

The studio, based in Warsaw, Poland, currently has 10 team members and plans to expand to almost 60 to support the development of their project.
