Absolutely Games, in collaboration with Team17 Digital, has unveiled the first gameplay video for their highly anticipated World War II strategy game, Classified: France ’44. The game, set to launch later this year, promises to bring a fresh perspective to the turn-based tactics genre.
The gameplay video showcases a range of innovative mechanics that are set to evolve the genre. One of the standout features is the unique morale system, where every shot counts and can significantly impact the outcome of battles. Stealth and ambush gameplay elements add a layer of strategic depth, allowing players to thin down enemy forces before engaging in direct combat.
The game also introduces a flexible overwatch system, enabling players to strategically select attacking targets. It also incorporates real-world fix-and-flank tactics, encouraging players to outmaneuver and strategically destroy the enemy.
Classified: France ’44 draws inspiration from the lesser-known story of the Jedburghs, a group of Allied special forces who were parachuted into occupied France to sow chaos behind enemy lines in the run-up to D-Day. The game allows players to step into the shoes of these brave soldiers and French Resistance fighters. They will have the power to decide which missions to pursue, which regions to liberate, and ultimately shape the outcome of D-Day.
The game is built on the Classified System, which includes a mission editor. This feature allows the PC community to craft and share their own missions using the same tools that the developers used to build the game. Future DLCs are set to add new enemies, campaigns, and more.
