Strongholds are a new game location in Diablo 4 that players must defeat to unlock new locations and gain access to special vendors. Here’s everything we learned from the Diablo 4 Developer Update.
During the Diablo 4 developer update, Blizzard devs featured its new Stronghold feature, specifically a location called Hopeslight. The flame has been extinguished there, and the small port town next to it has suffered. The Stronghold that was displayed introduces a new type of monster, The Drowned, a nautical race that has risen from the deep depths of the ocean.
One of the more innovative aspects is that defeating a Stronghold will permanently affect the game world, unlocking additional content like new towns, special vendors, dungeons, and side quests. In addition, players will gain Renown, a new stat you can gain by defeating various Strongholds across the game world.
Strongholds will be marked on your map once you’ve discovered them. Every region will have multiple Strongholds with a minimum level recommended.
The new Stronghold mechanic will make players’ games more unique as they level up, as defeating them can unlock different areas that otherwise wouldn’t exist. We’re very interested to see how it will all play out and how much impact it will have on the game.
