Dwarf Fortress Trailer – What is Dwarf Fortress?
Dwarf Fortress is a base-management game slowly developing into a fantasy world simulator. The base Fortress mode sees the Player overseeing a team of 7 Dwarves. They begin by starting a colony hoping to one day build their own Fortress. The procedurally-generated worlds are full of powerful creatures, useful resources, and other civilizations that rise and fall as time advances.

What Will the Dwarf Fortress Premium Version Include?
The big selling points are a graphical update and improved tutorials.
Dwarf Fortress is a great game that Players have enjoyed for around 2 decades. That said, it takes work to get into. The focus on simulating weather, diplomacy, and more has made the game complex. So much so that one forum user wrote an entire book just on getting started. Combined with ASCII graphics, this means the classic version is hard to approach, especially as more user-friendly successors such as Rimworld have appeared.
The new tutorial was tested by someone who needed to familiarize themselves with base-building games. They got far enough to drown their Fortress, more than many would-be players can say. As developer Zach Adams put it,
“We want the world to be able to lose this game and have fun doing it.”
What’s Coming Next in Dwarf Fortress?
Sadly, Adventure Mode will not be ready for the initial release. The devs intend to address this, as well as further improve the graphics and add support for MacOS and Linux. They’re currently still determining if Steam Workshop Support or Arena mode will be ready in December, so hopefully, those will arrive soon after.
It looks like I’ll finally have to learn Fortress Mode. Check out other stories in our News Section.
