A new gaming company led by former Riot Games members is embarking on a new journey to develop an open-world game and has just raised $55 million in investment.
The Believer Company is a brand-new organization led by the Executive Producer of League of Legends: Wild Rift, Michael Chow, who will now sit as CEO of the new venture. The company was able to raise $55 million dollars for their venture in Series A Funding, leaving the potential for an open-world game that uses next-gen tech and is led by people who helped develop one of the most popular games in the world, a good possibility.
The Believer Company will also include Chief Product Officer Steven Snow, a founding member of Riot Games and producer on League of Legends, per the press release from the company today. According to the release,
“The funding, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, will initially be put to work building a world-class team to deliver a next-generation open-world game, anchored by an original IP, stories where player choices matter, and gameplay systems that bring players together rather than pushing them apart.”
The startup venture was also able to get funding from other gaming companies, including Riot Games themselves and 1Up Ventures, an investment firm and community of independent game developers that have helped fund a multitude of indie studios.
Other studio members include Tim Hsu, Julien Bouvrais, Jeff Jew, Landon Mcdowell, and Jeremy Vanhoozer.
What’s in the New Game?
It’s far too early to call if the game will even come out, but we remain hopeful. If The Believer Company can raise the funding they need to develop their next-gen open-world game, which is likely if you consider the funding achieved in Round A, it will still be a long time off before we see an announcement trailer or even creative images for the game.
What we do know is that there are a ton of amazing designers, developers, and gaming veterans involved in the project, which means it should shake up the industry whenever they do announce what their game will be called and what it will be about.
