Guilty Gear Strive Hits 1 Million Units Sold, Bridget Introduced as DLC

Quality rollback net code and profound lore keep the Guilty Gear universe alive and well

When Guilty Gear Strive was released on July 11, 2021, the FGC knew it would be significant, but maybe not as big as it’s grown. Announced at this year’s EVO event, Guilty Gear Strive has officially passed the threshold of over 1 million copies sold.

This is a huge announcement and accomplishment for a fighting game. Usually, communities in the FGC are split depending on the game, but Guilty Gear and Arc System Works have made a unanimous hit with Guilty Gear Strive.

Bridget Introduced as DLC

First introduced back in 2002’s Guilty Gear X2, Bridget is a mainstay in the Guilty Gear roster. Bridget is also a featured character in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core PlusGuilty Gear IsukaDust Strikers, and Judgement. She was released today, August 8, 2022, and players have already got their hands on the character, pulling off some sickening combos.

A Backstory Embroiled in Controversy

Bridget uses her mobility and yo-yos to her advantage. We think it’s a fantastic character with some seriously cool-looking moves. Only time will tell where she falls on the tier list.

One of Bridget’s more controversial aspects is that she is a trans character. While gender fluidity is more well-known and accepted in certain parts of Asia, some people call the character’s backstory insensitive.

Bridget was born as a twin to a clan who had a superstition that having twins of the same gender would bring misfortune so they would kill or exile one of the twins. To keep their child alive, Bridget’s parents raised Bridget as their daughter, according to the GuiltyGear.com website

We think her inclusion and her story in the Guilty Gear universe is a good one, and we can’t wait to see high-level players develop some insane combos with her abilities.
