Crackshell and Modus Games have announced the much-awaited sequel to their classic hack ‘n slash action-adventure game, Hammerwatch.
Hammerwatch 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the retro, pixel-art ARPG that it’s named after, has just been announced. The game’s first details were revealed through a beautiful pixel art trailer. The game promises an improved, richer Hammerwatch experience with all-new immersive environments to explore. Hammerwatch 2 will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch this summer.

The trailer showcases the first glimpse of the world of Hammerwatch 2, where new day/night cycles give players a sense of a living world around them. The footage also features the five different hero classes players can enjoy as they battle beasts, finish off hordes of the undead, and face the forces of evil in this epic ode to classic ARPGs.
Hammerwatch 2 Gameplay Details
Hammerwatch 2 offers an adventure where players can go it alone or gather a party to aid King Roland’s resistance in online four-player co-op, tackling the diverse and epic quests in Hammerwatch 2’s vast, dynamic world. Players can journey through Hammer Island, the Fallowfields, and the dark mountainous regions of Blackbarrow in the signature Hammerwatch pixelated art style.
They can build a custom Herian Hero and choose between five distinct character classes: Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard, and Warlock, before customizing a hero’s appearance and leveling up to unlock powerful new abilities and skills.
Hammerwatch 2 Story Summary
The game’s storyline revolves around the Kingdom of Herian, where Blight the Horrible and his dragon army have succeeded in overthrowing King Roland, bringing destruction across the Kingdom. But hope hides deep within the sewer system, where the King’s resistance movement holds strong. On the King’s order, a select few mighty and skilled heroes have been entrusted with defeating Blight’s dragons and restoring the Kingdom.
PC players will be treated to a fully moddable world as modding support will be available at launch, allowing players to edit levels, create new stories, and be the author of their own adventures.
Modus Games also announced a special edition of Hammerwatch II, Hammerwatch II: The Chronicles Edition, available for preorder for $39.99, which includes the original remastered Hammerwatch and additional character color palettes, facial items, and a character voice pack.
