HAWKED, a new PvP, PvE extraction shooter developed by UPWAKE.ME, is launching a closed alpha to test their colorful, dare we say, zany, new take on the genre. Like other extraction shooters we’ve covered, in HAWKED, you team up with a squad to take on NPC monsters while staying diligent for other human-controlled squads. Your goal? Gain as much loot as possible. If, like other extraction shooters, in HAWKED, when you die, you lose your loot and inventory.
The HAWKED Closed Alpha will occur from November 24 at 4 p.m. CET / 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET to November 28 at 10 a.m. CET / 1 a.m. PT / 4 a.m. ET. During this time, players will enter a tutorial mode and gain access to the PvP matchmaking element of the game upon completion. According to the developers on the Steam blog, the servers will be up 24/7, so regardless of where you live or what time you like to game, you’ll be able to get into the action.
How to Sign Up for the HAWKED Closed Alpha Test
Important to note that the Closed Alpha test will only be available on PC via Steam, and the official HAWKED website states: “A console release is also planned in the future.” Though, an official release window has yet to be announced.
To register for the closed alpha of HAWKED:
- Visit the Steam Store page for HAWKED.
- Click the green Request Access button.
- Steam will notify you if you are granted access, and you can preload the game.
If you don’t get into the closed alpha this time, don’t fret. The developers have said there will be other opportunities to test the game. Those who get into the closed alpha will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) preventing you from recording or sharing images of the game.
What, Exactly, is HAWKED?
Extraction games are an emerging popular genre with a pretty simple gameplay loop. Drop into what is known as a “raid,” kill NPC units, loot as much as your bag can carry, then exfil out of the raid without being killed.
HAWKED follows this thread but adds a flashy varnish and a colorful sci-fi aesthetic in a genre known for slow, often plodding military-sim-type games. In HAKWED, you customize your Renegade with a loadout and custom abilities. Weapons range from grappling hooks to katanas to ray guns.
Your mission? Explore X-Isle, an interdimensional island, and destroy the monstrous beasts lurking in the mountains, jungles, and temples dotted around the enigmatic land.
