Wondering which characters to invest your resource into in Honkai Star Rail? The free-to-play single-player RPG from HoYoverse has dozens of unique characters, each with unique abilities and playstyle. Of course, which ones you put on your team will come down to who you get when you spend your Star Rail Passes.
Characters are obtained through the game’s gacha Warp system, where players spend Star Rail Passes and Stellar Jade to pull new characters and Light Cones. Players can then use in-game resources to level up and ascend the characters. Our Honkai Star Rail tier list ranks the best 5-star and 4-star characters so you can confidently invest those precious resources.
Honkai Star Rail Tier List
- S-Tier: Seele, Bailu, Bronya, Tingyun
- A-Tier: Himeko, Trailblazer (Fire), Gepard, Sushang, Pela, Welt, Clara, March 7th
- B-Tier: Asta, Dan Heng, Sampo, Hook, Serval, Yanqing, Natasha
- C-Tier: Qingque, Arlan, Trailblazer (Physical), Herta
As always, it’s important to note that our tier list is based on our personal experience with Honkai Star Rail and community feedback. Universally, the S-Tier characters are all very strong and most definitely worth leveling up and ascending. Since team synergies are important, it’s possible characters in lower tiers, like Asta, for instance, will be essential to a team — so take the rankings with a grain of salt.
Another thing to note is that these are all the available characters at launch as of version 1.0. HoYoverse is known to add more characters to their games as time goes on, and Honkai Star Rail will be no different. When new characters make their way to the game, we’ll fit them into our tier list as we see fit.
How to Get More Characters in Honkai Star Rail
Aside from playing through the entire story campaign and getting the free characters, players can obtain more characters in Honkai Star Rail by using Star Rail Passes at the Warp screen. There are three Warps where you can spend Star Rail Passes:
- Character Event Warp: Rotating banner where the featured character receives a drop-rate boost, and every ten Warps guarantees a 4-star or above entity.
- Light Cone Event Warp: Rotating banner where the featured Light Cone receives a drop-rate boost, and every ten Warps guarantees a 4-star or above entity.
- Regular Warp: The standard permanent banner where every ten Warps guarantees a 4-star or above entity.
