Season seven of Sea of Thieves is officially here with the rollout of the August content update. Mariners can now purchase their own ships, name them, and set sail as Captain. Enjoy new perks and unlock new customization options and trinkets. This guide will show you how to rename your ship in Sea of Thieves.
How to Name Your Ship in Sea of Thieves
To name your ship in Sea of Thieves:
- Launch Sea of Thieves and go to the Play tab.
- Select Adventure and select My Ships.
- Choose between Sloop, Brigantine, or Galleon.
- Press the Name Ship button and enter a name.
There are a few requirements when it comes to naming your ship:
- 90 characters maximum.
- Cannot contain any numbers.
- Cannot start or end with a space.
- Cannot use certain special characters.
You may see a Sea of Thieves “Unsuitable Ship Name” message upon entering your ship name. The game has a built-in word filter, so you cannot use any profanity or words blocked by the filter. Of course, automated filters have kinks, so there’s a chance some legitimate ship names could get blocked and cause issues.
There are also some reports that connection issues are causing problems with ship naming, so be patient and consider restarting your game if you experience issues.
How to Rename Your Ship in Sea of Thieves
To rename your ship in Sea of Thieves, you will need to purchase a Renaming Deed from the Pirate Emporium. The Renaming Deed allows you to rename your ship to whatever you like, but it costs 499 Ancient Coins, so choose your ship name wisely!
Sea of Thieves is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11 PC, and Steam.
