If you’ve always thought that renditions of Pinnocio are too soft, you’re in for a treat with the upcoming Soulslike based in a dark, steampunk fantasy world in Lies of P.
The original version of Pinocchio, The Adventures of Pinocchio, written in 1883 by Italian writer Carlo Collodi is actually a far cry from the 1940s Disney version. Much more brooding in tone, the book is an allegory for Italian industrialization and the country’s poverty at the time. Much like the original work, Lies of P is taking a darker route.

Rather than being a boy made of wood, in Lies of P, you are a young adult made of metal, wires, and processing units. That is, you’re an android.
Waking up in the dark and dystopian steampunk city of Krat, your decisions matter and will dictate your path through the game. The game boasts multiple endings, all altered depending on your choices.
What is the Gameplay Like for Lies of P?
As a Soulslike, Lies of P must set itself apart from its competitors. While the story in itself may be enough for some, for others, it’s going to come down to the gameplay.
Perhaps most critical is the game’s responsiveness, smoothness, and performance. Soulslike are both hated and loved for their punishing difficulty and steep learning curves. A few frames are often the difference between defeating an enemy and total annihilation–so dodge, block, and attack mechanics must be on point.

Luckily for Lies of P, they are in experienced hands. While some gamers may not know of NEOWIZ, the team working on Lies of P are experienced with diverse backgrounds. The developer’s past work includes Monster Hunter World, so creating a large-scale AAA title is no issue for them.
In the same thread, this may also heavily influence the weapon crafting system and mechanics that Lies of P developers boast as an advantage over other games in the genre. Only time will tell whether the experience working on Monster Hunter World will translate to a smooth gameplay experience.
