Meta has announced the upcoming release of its next-generation virtual and mixed reality headset, Meta Quest 3. This device promises to deliver a more immersive and powerful VR experience, featuring higher resolution, stronger performance, and “Meta Reality” technology.
Meta Quest 3 Release Date
The Meta Quest 3 is set to launch in the fall of 2023 in all countries where Meta Quest is currently supported. The 128GB headset will be priced at $499.99 USD, with an additional storage option available for those who require more space.
Meta Quest 3 Hardware Specs
The Quest 3 is powered by a Snapdragon chipset developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. This new chipset delivers more than twice the graphical performance of the previous generation Snapdragon GPU in Quest 2, which should give the device smoother performance.
The headset also features Meta Reality technology, which allows users to blend their physical world with the virtual one. This technology goes beyond today’s mixed reality by intelligently understanding and responding to objects in the user’s physical space and allowing them to navigate that space in natural, intuitive ways. Similar to augmented reality or AR, this will combine VR elements with the real world, so now you can play a game of chess against your friend in what feels like an actual living room.
The Quest 3 is 40% slimmer than the Quest 2, making it a sleeker and more comfortable headset. The Touch Plus controllers have been completely redesigned with a more ergonomic form factor, and TruTouch haptics have been introduced for more immersive gameplay.
The Quest 3 is compatible with the Quest 2 catalog of over 500 VR games, apps, and experiences, and more exciting new VR and MR titles are lined up for launch.
Meta also announced a price reduction in the Meta Quest 2, starting June 4, 2023. The Meta Quest 2 will now cost $299.99 USD for the 128GB SKU.
