Michael Jordan Named Cover Athlete for NBA 2K23

The Jordan Challenge returns in NBA 2K23.

Earlier today, 2K announced Michael Jordan would be gracing the cover of the next installment to the NBA 2K series, 2K23. The six-time NBA championship-winner, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, and owner of the Charlotte Hornets is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time. It only seems appropriate given the legend’s iconic jersey number 23.

NBA 2K23’s Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition mark Jordan’s 4th time headlining the NBA 2K cover. He was previously featured on covers for NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12, and NBA 2K16 Special Edition.

Additionally, this year’s game will reintroduce the fan-favorite Jordan Challenge, where players try to recreate 15 iconic moments from MJ’s career. Ten original Jordan Challenges from NBA 2K11 have been reworked and will return with five new moments to experience.

The standalone game mode includes special commentary from teammates and sports personalities who had the privilege of seeing the GOAT live in action.

More details about NBA 2K22’s The Jordan Challenge is expected to release later this summer.

Fans also got an official release date for NBA 2K23, slated for a September 9, 2022 release. A press release from 2K says fans can stay tuned for more cover athlete reveals in the next few days, along with pricing. Pre-orders go live on July 7.

Fans will have a new premium edition of NBA 2K23 available for pre-order, dubbed the Championship Edition.

Alfie Brody, VP of Global Marketing Strategy for NBA 2K, says, “This limited-edition version will also offer players the opportunity to catch on-court action throughout the season with a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass* included. We look forward to celebrating this game with the community when it’s released on September 9.”
