There’s a sense of satisfaction in building sims that few titles outside the genre can hope to match. Looking at a living, breathing colony or country or galaxy-spanning civilization and being able to say, “I did this,” is a gaming staple that has not shown any signs of losing its appeal. Ludeon Studios is offering more content on that front with their upcoming third expansion to their hit game RimWorld. Read ahead for the RimWorld: Biotech release date and details.
When is RimWorld Biotech Releasing?
The developers are currently aiming to release RimWorld Biotech in October 2022, with the patch notes declaring a release “in a few weeks.” We do not have a definite release date at this time, but we will update you when the developers announce the date. RimWorld is available for PC through Steam as well as PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
What is Coming in the Biotech Expansion?
There are three major features advertised in Biotech: child-rearing, mechanoid control, and genetic manipulation.
Colonists will soon be able to have their own offspring. Players can better guide the growth of these progeny (in the hope of positive traits) by creating nurturing environments or opt for soulless but efficient production of additional bodies through growth vats and artificially-induced pregnancies.
With the addition of the upcoming Mechanitor role, colonists will be able to grow and command Mechanoids of their own, subverting the fragility and quirks of the colonists themselves to provide a robust working or fighting force. It’s not all good news, however, with a new pollution mechanic teased as a way to keep the mechanoids in line with the existing RimWorld content.
Genetic modification will also become available, allowing colonists to harvest genes from multiple sources in search of advantageous traits they can implant into their own or recombine in the hope of creating more powerful combinations. It will be exciting to see what players do with this new content. Will colonists leave their humanity behind in pursuit of optimized life forms, perhaps combining this new content with the existing prosthetics system?
