The new indie Stone-Age survival game, Roots of Pacha, is facing a dispute with its publishers which led the game to be delisted from the popular gaming platform.
Roots of Pacha, developed by Soda Den and published by Crytivo, is currently undergoing a dispute over the rights of their indie game that was released on April 25, 2023. According to a recent tweet by the Roots of Pacha Twitter:
We are sad to report that we have been engaged in a dispute with Crytivo over the rights to Roots of Pacha. We worked hard to amicably resolve our issue with Crytivo internally. Instead of working with us to address the issue, Crytivo went to Valve and authorized them to remove Roots of Pacha from Steam without our knowledge or consent.
Crytivo answered back in the same thread, stating:
On April 27, just two days after the successful release, we received an unexpected message from the Soda Den team, informing us they were claiming to unilaterally rescind the contract we had worked under for three years, treating it as void.
So, in summary:
- Roots of Pacha, developed by Soda Den, was pulled from the Steam Store.
- Soda Den released a statement alleging Crytivo pulled the game from Steam via Twitter without consent.
- Crytivo essentially confirms the allegation in their own tweet. They claim that two days after Roots of Pacha was released, Soda Den rescinded the contract they had worked under for three years and revoked access to accounts, causing them to remove the game.
- They go on to state the game will be unavailable on the Steam Store until the dispute is resolved.
Ultimately, this is bad news for both parties and gamers alike, as we rated Roots of Pacha “Great” with a 4.7/5 score in our review.
Hopefully, both companies will be able to come to some resolution soon so that gamers who have yet to purchase the game can do so.
