2D pixel-art games have seen an enormous resurgence in popularity in the past few years. The original Shovel Knight, released in 2014, was an instant indie classic, garnering overwhelmingly positive critical and player acclaim when it launched. The newest spin-off from the franchise, Shovel Knight Dig, takes a unique approach to the 2D side-scrolling action game. Here’s what we know about Shovel Knight Dig, including the release date, trailer, and details.
What is Shovel Knight Dig?
Shovel Knight Dig, developed and published by Yacht Club Games, is a 2D action rougelite where you control Shovel Knight, an honor-bound protector that yields a shovel as a weapon. Unlike traditional sidescrollers, in Shovel Knight Dig, you’ll be going down… as in, digging down into the ground to find and defeat the nefarious Drill Knight.
Shovel Knight Dig is a spin-off to the original Shovel Knight and implements randomly-generated levels to keep the replayability factor high. Like the original game, you’ll be using your shovel to dig and destroy enemies.

New Enemies Make an Appearance
In addition to digging down into the ground, you’ll also be introduced to a host of new enemy Knights in Shovel Knight Dig. Known as Hexcavators, these special bosses will try to defeat you while implementing a variety of unique abilities.
