Simpsons Hit and Run Open-World Game is a Millennial’s Dream Come True

Lead Developer speaks on fan-made Simpsons Hit and Run game.

If you need a hit of nostalgia, look no further than this fan-created open-world Simpsons Hit and Run inspired game. Lifelong Simpsons fan and Unreal 5 developer Reuben Ward posted about his passion project on his official YouTube Channel. Read more to see what the game is all about.

What is the Open-World Simpsons Hit and Run Project?

Better known as reubs on his YouTube channel, developer Rueben Ward recently posted a video displaying his passion project–a fully realized open-world, GTA-esque, Simpsons Hit and Run game. He details how he located the game files online, remastered the world in the new Unreal engine, then designed and played a fully-realized quest that he created.

The project was so impressive that the lead developer, Joe McGinn, actually had something to say about it in the comments section.

“Hi, I’m the lead designer on the original game. Amazing what you achomplished! Really gives a taste of what a full modern remaster could be. Impressive work!”

An Open-World of Opportunity

This brings up a good question. Would a new and improved GTA-like hit-and-run game be successful in today’s audience? The answer–probably yes.

The Simpsons is the longest-running American animated series and still has millions of fans. In fact, the buzz around the original YouTube video, which garnered over 6 million views, inspired reubs to create an entire series on his remaster of the game in Unreal Engine 5.

Here’s the first episode of the series:

Unfortunately, the game won’t be available for public playing because of copyright issues. However, maybe the interest alone is enough to get the rights holders, in this case, EA, to get started on a remake of the classic game. I guess we can hold out hope that they greenlight a new Simpsons Hit and Run game in the next decade.

Kids of the early 2000s would definitely be interested, and we’d love to see Ward be involved in the official project.
