Slitherine, creators of Starship Troopers: Terran Command, is creating another RTS, this time using The Terminator franchise.
Last year we reviewed Starship Troopers: Terran Command by Slitherine, a UK developer responsible for a multitude of strategy games, including the fairly popular Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War. In their trend of creating entirely too-long game names based on iconic movie franchises, they will now produce and release a new game called Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance.
Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is a real-time strategy game where players assume the role of a commander of the Founders, the remnants of the US military. You, along with your squad, will complete missions across different maps while trying to survive engagements by deadly machines. Like most RTS games, this will mean players will control units from an overhead perspective while balancing their resources and creating new structures. While no official release date has been announced, the game is set to release sometime this year.
Is Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance Multiplayer?
Well, this one is a little curious, actually. According to the Steam Page for the game, much like the aforementioned Starship Troopers: Terran Command, the game is listed as singleplayer. However, if you look at the game description, it reads:
Test your skills in skirmish and online multiplayer matches. Fight against real-life human opponents in 1v1, 2v1 and 2v2 battles.
So yes, while it looks like the game is meant to be a singleplayer campaign-type experience across several missions and maps, it also looks like, unlike the Starship Troopers game, there will be some form of multiplayer in the form of skirmishes.
As a big RTS player, I know firsthand that having multiplayer is a critical aspect of building a strong community and avid group of players. While it’s unknown whether the title will have matchmaking or any ladder is still yet to be seen, the developers do plan to hold a livestream featuring more gameplay on the official Sliterine Twitch channel today at noon ET.
Players interested in following the game can wishlist it on the Steam store.
