The Last of Us Multiplayer Delayed, Says Naughty Dog

As many players wait eagerly for the upcoming The Last of Us Multiplayer game, they’ll need to wait a bit longer, according to a recent statement by the developers.

If you don’t know what The Last of Us is by now, we’re not quite sure how you’ve dodged all the spoilers on social media. The highly-popular award-winning game was recently adapted into an HBO series which catapulted the title into the world’s zeitgeist. If you didn’t hear, there is also an announced multiplayer game in the works.

According to a recent statement on Twitter:

We know many of you have been looking forward to hearing more about our The Last of Us multiplayer game. We’re incredibly proud of the job our studio has done thus far, but as development has continuted, we’ve realized what’s best for the game is to give it more time.

Our team will continue to work on the project, as well as our other games in development, including a brand new single-player experience; we look forward to sharing more soon.

We’re grateful to our fantastic community for your support — thank you for your passion for our games, it continues to drive us.

Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann spoke on the game earlier this year (h/t Polygon), stating:

the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay.

Though the company never officially stated a date for the release, many players have been expecting it sometime soon, with some even speculating that it should occur on June 14 for the game’s 10th year anniversary.
