It doesn’t look like the smash success of the new HBO Show, The Last of Us, has any bearing on the criticisms of PC gamers on Steam. Currently, The Last of Us Part 1 sits on the store with a Mostly Negative review rating out of 14,000 total reviews.
At the time of writing, over 9,000 reviews are negative, with a little over 5,000 positive reviews.
What Went Wrong?
Most players are complaining about poor performance issues with the PC port, which was handled by the game’s developers Naughty Dog, along with Iron Galaxy, according to a PlayStation Blog Post, which lists the PC specs and Iron Galaxy’s logo at the bottom.
On Steam, players with different PC hardware specifications complained about performance across the board. One user had this to say:
While another user lamented,
As the game was not provided to many gaming publications for early reviews — it’s left to users at this point to start posting their early experiences with the game.
Naughty Dog’s Response
Naughty Dog did respond to the issue, which prompted many frustrated by the game’s PC performance to take to the reply section to voice their concerns.
They also created a thread for all known issues. Hopefully, they will be able to resolve the problems soon.
Released on March 28, 2023, and developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part 1 follows the story of Joel, a hardened wanderer and the protagonist of the story, along with the 14-year-old Ellie, who many have fallen in love with since the debut of the HBO series. Both characters must survive against zombies as a result of a fungal infection called Cordyceps as they make their long cross-country journey on a mission to accomplish something that may save humanity.
For those introduced to The Last of Us from the HBO series, this is a pretty horrible honeymoon to the franchise if you’re playing on PC. However, the performance issues are not indicative of the norm for the multi-award-winning GOTY title. Hopefully, the game’s creators can resolve most of the issues plaguing PC users.
