The Sims 4 Goes Free-to-Play

Does this mean Sims 5 is around the corner?

If The Sims 4 always intrigued you, but you were never quite satisfied with the price tag, you’re in luck because starting on October 18, Sims 4 goes free-to-play for all gamers. Here’s what you need to know, including how to get your hands on the game and freebies for players who already bought it.

Developed in 2014 by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, The Sims 4 has been actively producing content for the game since its release. Surprisingly, unlike most modern franchises, The Sims has yet to see a sequel. Instead, the developers have opted to add more content in the form of Packs and expansions over the last 8 years.

On October 18, 2022, the game goes free to play, opening it up to anyone with an internet connection and a computer.

In addition, Sims4 developers will be holding a special event called Behind The Sims Summit the day the game goes free. You can watch it live on October 18, 2022, at 10 a.m. PDT on their official YouTube and Twitch channels.

We expect some news about future kits on Sims4, and if we’re lucky–at least a tidbit of information about Sims5 as well, though nothing is confirmed yet.

How Do I Get Sims4 Free-to-Play?

To get The Sims 4 base game free-to-play, download the Origin app on the official The Sims 4 page, then add The Sims 4 to your library.

Remember–The Sims 4 goes free-to-play on October 18, 2022, so you’ll have to wait to get it for free.

What if I Already Have the Game?

While some users have voiced their frustrations at having already paid for the base game, they aren’t walking away totally empty-handed.

From September 14 – October 17, 2022, all players who have purchased the base game will get the Desert Luxe Kit as a gift, free of charge.

To get the Desert Luxe Kit, log into The Sims 4 between September 14 – October 17, 2022, and select the Desert Luxe Kit on the main menu.

The option will likely disappear after the 17th, so make sure to pick it up while you still can!
