The Steam Deck is Valve’s handheld gaming computer, initially released on February 25, 2022. According to a report from Ars Technica back in June, sales of the system are steadily increasing, with an estimated 13,000 (give or take) units shipped weekly. Not only that, but there are now over 5,000 tested, verified, and playable titles on Steam Deck. So, what are people actually playing on the Steam Deck? Let’s look at the most popular games on Steam Deck for August 2022.
Top Games on Steam Deck (August 2022)
These are the top Steam Deck games of August 2022 based on hours played:
- Vampire Survivors
- Cult of the Lamb
- ELDEN RING
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Stardew Valley
- No Man’s Sky
- Hades
- MultiVersus
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
- MONSTER HUNTER RISE
Vampire Survivors
Some gamers might be surprised to see Vampire Survivors is topping the Steam Deck charts. The indie 2D rogue-lite survival game developed by poncle has been a smash hit on Steam, gaining a cult-like following and selling millions of copies since its release in December of 2021.
Are we surprised to see Vampire Survivors top the charts? No, not really–Vampire Survivors is an ideal game for the Steam Deck. It’s the perfect sit-and-play game that doesn’t require a considerable time investment to progress through, and it’s not at all demanding in terms of hardware requirements. Not to mention, it’s genuinely addicting to try and unlock all of the achievements.
Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb is another indie chart-topper sitting at the number two spot for most played games on Steam Deck for August 2022. Released on August 11, Cult of the Lamb reached one million players soon after launch and currently has an overwhelmingly positive reception on Steam.
Developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, Cult of the Lamb is a cute 2D action game where players must start a cult and spread the Word. It’s not exactly a very long game, with content that you could probably get through in 10-20 hours, but it’s a breath of fresh air that will keep you entertained for a few evenings.
ELDEN RING
Elden Ring, developed and published by FromSoftware Inc, is a game that needs no introduction. The soulslike dark fantasy RPG topped Steam’s weekly top seller’s list for about six weeks straight and peaked at nearly 1 million players.
While the game released in early 2022, we anticipate Elden Ring will continue appearing on the Steam Deck top games list for months to come. There’s not much else to say that hasn’t been said already about 2022’s game of the year candidate.
What’s going to top the charts in September? We’ll have to wait and see, but we’ll be sure to update you again next month!
