In a recent developer interview, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom creators talk about the future of the game, including sky exploration and dungeons.
In anticipation of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo recently sat down with the game’s creators to discuss their inspiration and to reveal more details about the highly-anticipated title. In part 3 of the interview, the director of the game, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and other members speak about dungeons and other aspects of the upcoming title, including air exploration.
According to Fujibayashi:
They’ve changed from the previous game. For example, there is a dungeon that connects directly from Hyrule’s surface. If you dive from the sky straight into the dungeon, you’ll trigger an event. We think this will be a new experience that wasn’t possible in the previous game.
The game’s art director, Satoru Takizawa, goes on to say:
Making a “wide variety” was pretty challenging. The four Divine Beasts were the dungeons in the last game, and they shared similar designs. This time, the dungeons are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel, just like traditional The Legend of Zelda games. We think they will provide a satisfying challenge for players. They were certainly a challenge to develop! (Laughs)
In addition, the team speaks about exploring the skies and cliffs and the challenges of designing in a vertical space. Much of the interview revolves around the new concepts that the team will bring to the table while adhering to the same The Legend of Zelda that fans have come to love for decades.
