Cyberpunk 2077 Hits 20 Million Copies Sold

That's a lot of cyberpunks roaming around Night City

It has been a huge month for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077; with the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix, Cyberpunk has seen a massive resurgence of players checking out Night City. Today, CD Projekt Red announced on Twitter that Cyberpunk 2077 has officially sold 20 million copies.

Taking a look at the metrics for a minute, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently sitting at the number six position for most concurrent users on Steam, according to SteamDB. The game also sits at the #23 spot on Xbox’s Most played games list.

The player count peaked at about 136,000 players on Steam this past Sunday — far off from the over 1 million concurrent user peak at launch, but about a five-fold increase from the recent average. It’s worth noting these are only Steam metrics.

According to a recent tweet, 1 million players were logging into Night City every day this past week. Not too shabby for a nearly two-year-old game.

The last update from CD Projekt regarding sales numbers was back in April of this year. At the time, the number of copies sold was around 18 million. That means Cyberpunk 2077 went on to sell another two million copies in the last five months.

We think it’s likely that the growth will not end any time soon, as the team recently announced a full-fledged Cyberpunk 2077 DLC expansion during the Night City Wire Edgerunners Update special. The expansion is set to release in 2023, but an official launch date has not yet been confirmed.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
