Dead by Daylight Freddy Krueger “The Nightmare” Builds

Show Survivors the power of the Dream Demon with our Dead by Daylight Best Builds guide for Freddy Krueger, aka "The Nightmare."

Freddy’s been on both ends of the Tier List. The developers have repeatedly reworked his Power and Add-ons. Freddy Krueger, or “The Nightmare,” is finally in a spot the devs are happy with, so let’s cover the best Dead by Daylight Freddy Krueger builds.

Dead by Daylight Best Freddy Krueger “The Nightmare” Builds

The best builds for Freddy Krueger focus on game delay through regression or slowdown. Freddy already has map control and chase power built into his kit.

The best Dead by Daylight Freddy Krueger builds are:

  • Generalist
  • Claw Back
  • End Game

Generalist

The Generalist build is balanced overall and can work in many situations.

Here are the Perks and Add-ons in the Generalist build:

Add-ons:

  • Green Dress (Uncommon)
  • Outdoor Rope (Uncommon)

Perks:

  • Save the Best for Last (From the Shape)
  • Jolt (Base Perk)
  • Franklin’s Demise (From The Cannibal)
  • Overcharge (From the Doctor)

The Add-Ons debuff Survivors in the Dream World, especially those failing skill checks.

Survivors know about Freddy’s Dream Snares. Some of them will avoid looping so Freddy can’t place any mid-chase. Save the Best for Last means Freddy loses less distance after hits, punishing these Survivors more. Jolt returns from our previous builds; Freddy’s teleport means he’s better at finding Survivors near generators where Jolt shines.

Franklin’s Demise counters Suvivors items. Struck Survivors drop their Item, forcing it to lose charges while on the ground.

Overcharge provides information. Survivors that fail skill checks on overcharged generators lose extra progress and reveal their aura thanks to our Add-ons.

Claw Back

The Test 2 build focuses on generator regression and map awareness.

Here are the Perks and Add-ons in the Claw Back build:

Add-ons:

  • Nancy’s Masterpiece (Rare)
  • Red Paint Brush (Ultra Rare)

Perks:

  • BBQ and Chili (From The Cannibal)
  • Pop goes the Weasel (From The Clown)
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (From The Artist)
  • Coup De Grace (From The Twins)

The Add-ons do 2 things: Make it harder to leave the Dream World, and give Freddy more benefits from sleeping Survivors.

Pain Resonance and Pop goes the Weasel are Regression Perks that were slightly nerfed. With BBQ and Chili and Freddy’s Teleport, their downsides aren’t a problem.

BBQ shows where Survivors are and what generators to contest after a hook. With the Teleport, Freddy reaches them quickly. If the Generator is at least half done, double-tap it with Pop. Otherwise, go straight into chasing.

Coup De Grace adds extra chase power: It pairs with Dream Snares to make looping less effective. Survivors underestimate Freddy’s Lunge thanks to his shorter stature and smaller weapon–throwing out the odd extended Lunge will really mess with them.

End-Game

The End-Game build is built around a last-minute power spike. Freddy was the first DbD Killer to have end-game-focused Perks.

Here are the Perks and Add-ons in the End-Game build:

Add-ons:

  • Black Box (Ultra Rare)
  • Jump Rope (Rare)

Perks:

  • No Way Out (From The Trickster)
  • Fire Up (Base Perk)
  • Remember Me (Base Perk)
  • Rancor (From The Spirit)

The Add-ons debuff injures Survivors in the Dream World and provides extra end-game power.

Fire Up grants increased action speed per generator repaired. Normally the end-game is too short for this Perk to work. That’s why the build has Remember Me and No Way Out. These make it take longer to open the exit gates.

Remember Me can be countered by the Obsession target opening the Gate. Enter Rancor. Rancor Exposes the Obsession once the generators are done. Once downed, Freddy can kill them outright. It also provides aura reading every time Survivors fully repair a generator.

If the Survivors still manage to get the Gates open, any Survivors in the Dream World are still blocked from escaping for 15 seconds.

The Dream World and Freddy’s Lullaby

For awake Survivors, Freddy’s Terror Radius works as normal, but Freddy is invisible past 32 meters and flickers in and out of sight until 16 meters. Asleep Survivors enter the Dream World and are Oblivious but instead hear the famed lullaby. This doesn’t trigger any Terror Radius Perks.

Survivors in the Dream World are surrounded by a white outline, making it harder to hide. They’re also vulnerable to Freddy’s Dream Snares. Survivors must wake up through failed skill checks, Alarm Clocks, or other Survivors using the Wake Up action on them.
