Dead Cells Hits New High with 10 Million Copies Sold

Dead Cells, the critically acclaimed roguelite game, has crossed the 10 million sales mark in a monumental achievement for indie gaming.

Developers Evil Empire and Motion Twin announced today, celebrating the game’s incredible journey since its initial Early Access launch on Steam in 2017. Dead Cells has been a shining example of long-tail success in the gaming industry, with its popularity soaring across all major global territories.

The game’s free updates have been a major draw for fans, introducing new gameplay elements, weapons, items, levels, and even crossover events featuring characters from other popular indie games like Hotline Miami and Shovel Knight. The game’s four paid DLCs, including the groundbreaking Return to Castlevania DLC, a collaboration with Konami, have also significantly driven the game’s development and success.

Following the success of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, Evil Empire is now exploring new ways to expand and enhance the game. The studio, which took over live operations of Dead Cells in 2019, is experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes.

Dead Cells has received numerous awards since its launch in 2018, including Best Indie Game at 2018’s Golden Joystick Awards, Best Action Game at 2018’s The Game Awards, and Best Indie Game at 2018’s New York Game Awards.
