If you’re looking for a Sorcerer leveling build for the Diablo 4 Open Beta, look no further because we’ve got you covered. It turns out Hydra is the highest damage skill of the Open Beta. Therefore, we’ve built a Fire Sorc setup that is pretty overpowered throughout the first 25 levels of the game. Feel free to use the build below and tinker with it to your liking.
Before you dive into the D4 Sorc leveling build below, it’s crucial to quickly understand how Renown works. After you complete Strongholds, explore areas (which will be Act 1: Fractured Peaks in the Open Beta), and complete side quests, open up the Region Progress screen to claim your two extra skill points when possible. Technically, you would only get 24 Skill Points from leveling. However, thanks to these Renown rewards, you will obtain extra.

Skill Rotation and How to Play the Build
This build is not rocket science, especially considering how easy it is to play a Sorcerer in Open Beta. You will be placing a Hydra — or two Hydras once you find the Aspect that allows you to have another — and spamming Fireballs. You’ll also want to use your Frost Nova to apply Vulnerable on enemies whenever possible. The skill rotation for the Diablo 4 Hydra Sorcerer is:
- Teleport near enemies
- Place Hydras
- Frost Nova
- Inferno (if fighting elites, bosses, or high density)
- Spam Fireball
- Spam Fire Bolt for mana
- Repeat
Specialization: Enchantments
Every class gets a specialization, and the Sorcerer’s specialization is called Enchantments. After completing the Sorcerer quest line, you can pull up your Skill window (“S” on keyboard) and drag a skill into the newly opened slot. For this build, we recommend using either Fireball or Hydra.
- Fireball: Enemies explode in a Fireball on death for 50% of its damage.
- Hydra: Auto-cast a 5-headed Hydra after spending 300 mana.
For boss fights, the extra Hydra is nice. It doesn’t count toward your limit, so this is the only way to have three Hydras out at any one time. For all other occasions like farming dungeons and exploring the open world, go with Fireball — you’ll be nuking groups like nobody’s business.
Gear, Gems, and Aspects
As for gear, the stats you want are Intelligence, Critical Hit Chance, and Critical Hit Damage. The gems you want to use are Emeralds in weapons for Critical Strike, Ruby in armor for more life, and a Skull or any Gem for resistance in Jewelry for Resistance/Armor.
You will want the following Aspects for this build:
- Serpentine: Gives you one extra maximum Hydra at the cost of reducing the Hydra duration.
- Edgemaster: Skills deal more damage base don your available Primary Resource when cast.
- Control: You deal more damage to Immobilized, Stunned, or Frozen enemies.
- Prodigy: Using Cooldowns restores Mana.
For all other Aspects, get ones that increase either your Damage or Survivability, whichever you need more.
