Persistent Multiplayer in a Massive Open-World
It isn’t Funcom’s first rodeo working on a survival game. Funcom has worked on a full-scale release, with their creation of Conan Exiles. With multiple DLCs and an entire game cycle, developers of the game are now experts on developing survival content.
According to the Dune Awakening Website, the game will take place on the alien planet, Arrakis. You’ll need to survive against the constant sandstorms and environmental disasters. Oh yeah, and also giant sandworms that emit spice and live deep under the planet’s crust.
We’re confident in the developers and we can’t wait to see what they come up with. The visuals look impressive so far, and if we get complex survival mechanics combined with competent first-person combat, the sky is the limit for Dune Awakening.
With other games like ARK 2 being developed, it will be a crowded field for large survival games. We think that the combination of a solid IP like Dune combined with the expertise of this development team can compete with the giants in the industry.
