Overwatch 2 has a lot of unlockable cosmetics that players can buy to customize their character. While the latest addition of Mythic skins may be the newest addition to the game, perhaps the most coveted of all is the Golden Weapons that players can earn for their character. These weapons show other players that they are dealing with someone who has been on the front lines of Competitive Mode and is serious about the game. Here is how to get Golden Weapons in Overwatch 2 through a straightforward but grind-heavy process.
Unlocking Golden Weapons in Overwatch 2
In Overwatch 2, players buy Golden Weapons with Competitive Points (CP), which are earned by playing competitive mode. Awards are given out at the end of each 9-week season, depending on how players rank on the Competitive leaderboards. Players gain 15 CP for winning a competitive match and 5 CP for a draw.
See below for the competitive points awarded based on your placement at the end of the season:
- Bronze: 65 CP
- Silver: 125 CP
- Gold: 250 CP
- Platinum: 500 CP
- Diamond: 750 CP
- Master: 1,200 CP
- Grandmaster: 1,750 CP
The higher you’ve placed, the more points you earn, up to 3,500 CP for the top 500 players each season. Since Golden Weapons cost 3,000 CP per character, these can make for an extremely lengthy grind, requiring multiple seasons for 90% of players.
For instance, Gold players would have to play 12 seasons to acquire enough CP for a single gold gun. This is, of course, if Blizzard doesn’t add any additional ways to get CP.
Create a Pre-made Team to Make Getting Golden Weapons Easier
Golden Weapons are an extremely coveted possession, and players may want to focus on finding a team for Competitive that works well together. With a proper team, players can play better. With a lot of grinding, skill, and luck, players can make their way to the top of the ranks and earn some beautiful Golden Weapons for their main heroes.
