Ghost Song, developed by Old Moon, is out on Steam. We dove into this sci-fi metroidvania to see if there were any special surprises for Players willing to look around. As it turns out, there’s one right near the starting area at the beginning of the game! Read ahead for how to get the Cloudburst Rifle.
How to get the Cloudburst Rifle
To get the Cloudburst Rifle in Ghost Song, players must go to the left at the start of the game and defeat the hidden miniboss, Liselle Tal: The Lost Hunter. Once defeated, players will be rewarded with the Cloudburst Rifle. This is a powerful early-game weapon that will make completing the initial stages of the game easier.
For an in-depth guide on how to find and defeat Liselle Tal so you can get the Cloudburst Rifle in Ghost Song, keep reading.
Liselle Tal: The Lost Hunter Location
At the start of the game, after waking up the Deadsuit (“Z” by default on keyboard), Players are supposed to go right and let the game explain the various mechanics. But metroidvania games don’t reward Players who aren’t willing to be bold and adventurous, so go left.
Jump the small cliffs to the left (stand back from them or you’ll get stuck on the lip) and continue left past the remains of the yellow deadsuit. After a basic enemy and a ghostly image, Players will meet Liselle Tal: The Lost Hunter.
Defeating Liselle Tal Miniboss
Defeating Liselle Tal will unlock the Cloudburst Rifle. Players that die to Liselle should pick up their dropped nanogel before starting the fight again (look for the green glow).
Liselle hits hard; cannon shots or contact damage will take off half your HP, so there’s not much room to mess around. Dying will cut into the Player’s maximum HP on the normal difficulty, but we’re not starting at full HP to begin with.
Liselle has 3 behaviors:
- Standing in place
- Emiting tracking spores
- Running side to side
Liselle will initially stand in place and raise their arm cannon (listen for the high-pitched whine) before firing an extended volley. It starts as inaccurate, but Liselle will lock onto the Player’s location after a couple shots. Run away to avoid the shots, or better yet jump behind Liselle to attack them without fear.
Melee attacks (“E” on keyboard) hit harder for most of the fight; Fire several shots to overheat the cannon (“X” on keyboard) for more melee damage. The cannon deals the most damage at close range; Remember to avoid walking into the boss.
Sometimes, Liselle stands in place, but tracking spores erupt from their back. These spores will hover above them for a couple seconds before chasing the Player. Shoot these down before they start moving for an easier time.
Finally, Liselle will run from side to side. Contact damage hurts, and this move can be a surprise, given how slow Liselle is during the rest of their attacks. Be ready to jump (“Z” on the keyboard) over them. The sound of shuffling leaves warns Players that Liselle is running even if they’re off-screen.
Liselle will occasionally show a green mass on their back during the spores attack. This is our chance to deal some real damage. Stand behind Liselle and fire into the mass; Melee Attacks don’t get any extra benefit that we could see.
It takes some time, but Liselle will fall, leaving the Cloudburst Rifle on the ground, and some nanopack gel on the left side of the area.
Using the Cloudburst Rifle
Don’t forget to shut down your Deadsuit (“V” on keyboard) before entering the menu to equip the weapon. The Cloudburst Rifle is an alternate fire (“D” on keyboard) that pulls from the energy pool shown below the health bar. The energy pool restores slowly; Use it wisely.
We hope players enjoy this weapon’s extra power and the chance to practice their combat skills.
