How to Fix Hogwarts Legacy Lag and Stuttering

If you are excited to enter the wizarding world but can’t play because the game lags every five seconds, we’ve got a fix for the Hogwarts Legacy lag and stuttering issues.

Lag and stuttering problems when a game first launches is nothing new, as many new games that come out on PC initially have issues or new drivers players need to download for the game to work properly. Hogwarts Legacy, the latest open-world RPG based on the Harry Potter books and movies, is a smash hit, but many players report lag issues. This guide will give you a few of the most common solutions to fix stuttering and lag in the game.

How to Fix Hogwarts Legacy Lag Stuttering

The most common fixes for the Hogwarts Legacy stuttering issue include the following:

  • Set Texture Quality and View Distance Quality in Graphics Options to Low.
  • Restart the game to see if this resolves your lag problems.
  • Update your Graphics Drivers.
  • Change Upscale Type in Display Options from NVIDIA DLSS to AMD FSR 2
  • In Display Options, ensure that the Select GPU option is set to your desired video card.
  • Close any other programs running in the background by the End Task button in Task Manager.
  • Run Hogwarts Legacy in Administrator mode.
  • Right-click Hogwarts Legacy in Steam and select Properties. Then, hit Local Files and finally select Verify integrity of game files.
  • Make sure your PC meets the game’s minimum system requirements

How to Update Video Card Drivers

Since Hogwarts Legacy is a new game, there’s a good chance that AMD and NVIDIA both have new drivers to support it. To update your video card driver, visit the driver’s page for your own video card and download and run the latest driver. See below for links to the most common drivers.

How to Run Hogwarts Legacy in Administrator Mode

To run the game in Administrator Mode, you need to find the game’s .exe file. This is located in:

\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64\HogwartsLegacy.exe.

Right-click the file, then select Run as administrator

Unfortunately, like many performance issues for games on PC, the solution may be based on the hardware you have, not the game itself — so it’s hard to tell which fix will work for you.
