The battle between developers and cheaters continues. Read on for an explanation of the Modern Warfare 2 SMS requirements.

The newest Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare II, has some extra security features. The upcoming shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision is asking for mobile phone numbers from players to grant access to Call of Duty: Modern Ware II on PC. Read on for details on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II SMS Requirements.

Modern Warfare II SMS Requirements Apply to New PC Accounts

Team Ricochet outlined the SMS Security Policy during a recent blog post. The post also covers various improvements to the in-game anti-cheat measures in preparation for Modern Warfare II’s launch on October 28, 2022.

To play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II on PC, Players must provide a “text-enabled mobile phone number.” The policy is a carry-over from Call of Duty: Warzone. Warzone has required PC Players to provide a mobile phone number since May 2020. It will apply to both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0. This requirement applies to Steam users as well.

Warzone players that have already verified their accounts do not need to do anything.

The stated goal is to thwart would-be cheaters at the account creation stage. Team Ricochet found bad actors trying to reach Warzone through the less robustly guarded Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). These requirements were added to that title, too, in August 2022. Thus, they’re changing to plug the gap and be consistent. They’ve assured players that the numbers will only be used for security purposes, not marketing.
