Overwatch Bronze Bug Fixed in New Patch

Now maybe Diamonds won't be placed in Bronze 5.

Overwatch 2 is finally here, and with it, a new chance to enter into a completely overhauled competitive mode, with new team balances and adjustments. However, not everything seems as it should be, as players report that their competitive ranks are being nerfed in the new game. Here’s what we know about the Overwatch Bronze bug fix and what it means for Competitive Matchmaking.

In particular, players who have reached a certain rank in the old competitive mode are overwhelmingly being placed lower in Overwatch 2. Blizzard has recently released a patch that can help players to fix this issue.

Overwatch Bronze Bug Fix Helps Players Climb to the Right Rank

Understandably, players being stuck inside a rank they felt was too low caused some uproar in the community. In an official post on the Blizzard forums, Blizzard explained what they were going to do to fix the issue, which included:

  • Many players were ranked too low during the first week of Overwatch 2, so we are implementing a boost as players continue to play games for those affected by this issue.
  • Players who were ranked too low could have the feeling of being stuck in this rank. Moving forward, players should be able to climb the ranks in their first rank update, assuming they’re supposed to be higher based on their performance.
  • Players who haven’t ranked will not experience this issue after this patch.

In addition, some other changes were made in the patch that was released on October 13, 2022. Interested players can read the full patch notes here.

Ultimately, however, what this means for players is that if they have been affected by this error, they will need to continue to play, and the next time their rank is evaluated, they will be placed where they should be. Those who have not yet entered into competitive mode will not be affected.

Players can pick up Overwatch 2 on multiple platforms for free – and try their luck in competitive matchmaking to see where they place with the new and corrected ranking system.
