Rust: How to Use Electric Furnace

Forget about manually loading your furnaces.

The Electric Furnace is a new item introduced with the Industrial Update in the survival game, Rust. Players can use this new energy-powered item for smelting ore faster than the stone Furnace.

Before getting started, players will need a source of electricity to power their Conveyor and the Electric Furnace. Use Solar Panels, a Root Combiner, and Battery and connect them with wires to have an electrical source that can power your production and automation. From here, you’ll have what you need to set up an automated smelting operation in your base.

How to Use an Electric Furnace in Rust

Electric Furnaces can be used with the new Industrial Update to automatically refine ore from a chest so that you don’t need to manually load a furnace. Before starting, players will need an electrical source and Pipe Tool to set up their production line. Place the Electric Furnace, then attach a Storage Adapter to it. The adapter will transport raw materials from your storage to your Electric Furnace for automatic refinement via tubes.

From here, players must craft an Industrial Conveyor to act as the control panel for their production line. Place the Conveyor close to the storage chest for your raw ore and hook your Conveyor to a power supply. Use the Pipe Tool to connect the other side of the Conveyor to the supply chest.

Electric Furnace Setup in Rust

Each Industrial Conveyor can transport 32 items at a time.

Next, you’ll want to place an adapter on the other side of your Electric Furnace and use the Pipe Tool to connect it to your second Conveyor. Finally, you’ll want to connect the second Conveyor to your output storage chest, where you’ll be storing Metal Fragments, High-Quality Metal, and refined Sulfur.

Now you can turn on your Electric Furnace, and it will automatically gather the raw ore from your raw ore chest and place it in your refined ore chest. You can further tweak the settings of your production chain by interacting with the Industrial Conveyor and adjusting the options.

Total Materials Required for Electric Furnace Production Line

Automation isn’t cheap, and players will need to obtain many materials to start their smelting production line. In totality, players will need, at a minimum, a Pipe Tool, Storage Adapter x4, Electric Furnace, and Industrial Conveyor x2.

To build the Pipe Tool, players will need a Workbench level 1 and the following materials:

  • High-Quality Metal x2

To build a Storage Adapter, players will need a Level 1 Workbench and the following materials:

  • Metal Fragments x100

To build an Electric Furnace, players will need a Workbench Level 2 and the following materials:

  • High-Quality Metal x5
  • Metal Fragments x200

To build an Industrial Conveyor, players will need a Workbench Level 1 and the following materials:

  • Metal Fragments x150

Get Creative and Complex with Industrial Production Automation

Of course, this is the most simple setup you can have for your Electric Furnace. Each Storage Adapter has multiple nodes which you can use to further streamline your production line, and you can set up multiple Industrial Conveyor and Electic Furnaces to produce more refined materials more efficiently.

Ultimately, being creative with your construction is part of the fun of building a production line. Remember that the pipes to transport goods can’t go through walls and can only pass under doors, so if you plan on setting up a production chain, ensure you have enough space before you waste a bunch of time getting stuck pickaxing your walls down.

We hope this guide on how to build and use an Electric Furnace as part of a production line helped you. We know it can feel complex at first, but once you understand the core concepts of automation, the sky’s the limit for your base’s production!
