Sons of the Forest: How to Get Feathers

That's not a leaf, it's a feather.

In Sons of the Forest, Feathers are a critical material that is used in arrow crafting. This guide will walk you through exactly how to get them.

In Sons of the Forest, if you’re confused about why you can’t create Stone Arrows for your Bow, it’s probably because you’ve gathered leaves, not feathers. Here’s where you can find Feathers in the game.

How to Get Feathers in Sons of the Forest

Players can obtain feathers by killing birds found around the island or by building Bird Houses with the Build menu. To kill a bird, wait for it to land, then poke it or throw a spear at it. Hit E on the floating feathers to add them to your inventory. Players can hit a bird three times for feathers. Each time you hit the bird, fewer feathers will come out.

Sons of the Forest: Dead Bird

Birdhouses will generate feathers over time, which is a good way to create a steady supply of Feathers. Pull up the build menu with B, then click the Utility tab and select Birdhouse. The construction will require 18 Sticks, which players can find on the ground or by cutting down small trees.

Birds will often land on the beach, corpses, and effigies. Rather than chasing down birds — which is pretty hard to do — wait for them to land next to you, then attack with your Spear.

From what it seems like, birds don’t actually visit your Birdhouses, so their purpose is to make feathers. If you need a lot of them, we recommend building a few so you never run out.
