THE FINALS is High-Speed FPS Action You Need to See

If Scott Pilgrim and The Purge had a baby, it would be THE FINALS

If the bland flavor of run-of-the-mill PvP battle royale games feels completely stale, don’t worry–you’re not alone. Beyond a few gimmicks and splashes of promise, the genre has been getting old, relying more on well-known IP crossovers rather than dynamic overhauls in gameplay. This couldn’t be less of the case for THE FINALS, an upcoming free-to-play battle-royale game for PC.

What is THE FINALS?

The setup is pretty typical. Stuck in a future dystopia and forced to battle against other people whose goal is to be the last person standing, THE FINALS is a PvP first-person-shooter battle royale game developed by Embark Studios

In THE FINALS you’re plugged into a virtual environment–a giant arena with a plethora of different, unique, and deadly weapons.

If this all sounds all-too-familiar, where THE FINALS stands out with its smooth, high-paced gameplay, unique hyper-realized aesthetic, and destructible environments. Unlike other games in the genre, in THE FINALS, it feels like you’re in a virtual world where you can destroy walls and flip things over to route out pesky campers.

Adding utility items like a grappling hook makes moving and positioning around the beautiful 3D structures quick and visceral. Reminiscent of single-player games like Just Cause or Pathfinder in Apex Legends, time will tell whether the visual eye candy and quick-paced gameplay will translate to a smooth FPS experience.

While we don’t know much about Embark Studios’ games, other than their other upcoming title ARC Raiders, both games look to utilize very cool particle technology, which gives them a unique look.

According to the Embark Studios website:

“Embark Studios was founded in November 2018, by industry veterans Magnus Nordin, Rob Runesson, Stefan Strandberg, Patrick Söderlund, Jenny Huldschiner and Johan Andersson.”

Many members of the Emark Studios team come from EA DICE and have worked on huge titles like Battlefield, according to LinkedIn. We’re excited to see what other games will come out of this studio.

If you want to get your hands on the game early, sign up for their official playtest on September 29 on Steam
