There is No Light Release Date – Hack-and-Slash through Hordes of the Undead

Love carnage, demons, and 2D retro games? You'll love There is No Light.

Fans of retro-style arcade and pixel-art games have had their hands full over the last few months with some stellar releases. Indie successes like Cult of the Lamb and Vampire Survivors prove that 2D gaming is here to stay. On the blood-soaked horizon, there’s another 2D game releasing soon, this time of the hack-and-slash variation called There is No Light. Here’s everything you need to know about There is No Light, including the release date, trailer, and details.

What is There is No Light?

Started on Kickstarter and developed by the indie team called Zelart and publishers HypeTrain Digital, There is No Light is a 2D hack-and-slash horror game where you enter a hostile land filled with demons and challenges.

Visceral in nature, in There is No Light, you play as a hapless citizen in the desolate underground after a global catastrophe has wiped out all life above. Your people praise a new God, The Great Hand, who comes and takes newborn sacrifices. It’s your goal to rescue your newborn, even if it means battling back the demons and aberrations that lay in your path.

The game boasts a 30-hour+ story mode and non-linear decision-making–making it more than just your standard hack-and-slash game.

With over 2,000 backers, There is No Light was able to build a devoted cult following online, who fell in love with this retro-style sidescroller’s dark and twisted aesthetic.
