Destiny 2 has entertained gamers in the looter-shooter genre since originally released in 2014. Since then, the game has received many updates and expansions, with the upcoming Lightfall scheduled to release on February 28, 2023. However, the move to a new generation of systems has led many die-hard fans to wonder if there will be a Destiny 3.
Will there be a Destiny 3?
There has been no announcement of a Destiny 3 game at this time. So the answer to the question is no, at least–not for a while. Bungie has decided instead to invest time and energy into the popular Destiny 2.
At the Destiny 2 Showcase, which was live-streamed in August of 2022, players received some exciting information on Destiny 2 and a roadmap that explained they would be receiving content until 2024 for Destiny 2.
During this live-stream Justin Truman, the Destiny 2 General Manager, stated that
“We’ve also been working on the Destiny engine behind the scenes, preparing our technology and our game to last for many, many years to come because Destiny 2 is not going anywhere and neither are your expansions.”
This is solid news for players who want to keep the Destiny 2 game around for a long time, because, as of right now, the game isn’t going anywhere. With all the new and exciting additions coming down the pipeline for Destiny 2, those looking forward to a Destiny 3 may be disappointed.
Still, this adheres to the strategy many online games such as World of Warcraft, and other MMOs implement, where they release expansions rather than releasing a new game every time they want a content drop.
While this may change in the future, it remains that players, for now, can continue to enjoy Destiny 2 and will have to see what surprises and excitement are in store during future DLCs.
