Apex Legends Catalyst Joins the Roster

Catalyst is the newest Legend and first trans-woman in Apex Legends

Apex Legends has another season, Apex Legends: Eclipse, on the way. This Respawn-made, free-to-play shooter recently announced a new character with the introduction of Tressa Smith, aka Catalyst, joining the cast in the upcoming season. Here’s what we know so far about the new Apex Legends Catalyst Legend and what she has to offer.

Who is Catalyst?

Catalyst is a defensive Legend themed around ferrofluid. She can manipulate ferrofluid, as seen in teaser images and the Apex Legends Stories from the Outlands video released today.

Tressa “Catalyst” Smith’s story is mostly told via flashback, revealing her past on Boreas, a world suffering after the damage sustained by its moon Cleo. The latter will be featured in a new map for Apex Legends.

Encouraged by her friend Margo, Catalyst gets involved in an attack on a Hammond facility that ends in an explosion. Catalyst never learned what happened to her friend, but she’s intent on helping her homeworld in her way by joining the Apex Games.

Catalyst is the first Trans woman represented in Apex Legends, and it marks a great time for improved inclusivity in gaming. We’re always open and receptive to more characters in our favorite shooters and can’t wait to see how Catalyst can use her unique ferrofluid-controlling techniques on the battlefield.

Apex Legends: Eclipse launches November 1, 2022.

What is Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is a first-person shooter battle royale game, a spin-off from the Titanfall franchise. Players take control of Legends, using their unique abilities and skilled gunplay to win the Apex Games. Doing away with the giant mechs and parkour mechanics means these Legend abilities are a core part of combat.
