In the gaming sphere, it seems that crossovers aren’t just an occasional occurrence anymore. Everything from Lebron coming to Multiversus to entire franchises being re-created for gaming consoles and PCs, gaming is rife with industry tie-ins. Now, toy creators Funko is joining the fray with 1010 Games and developing a new platformer based on their cute toy creations.
According to a press release by Funko, Inc.:
“Creating iconic products that emotionally connect fans to their favorite fandoms is critical to each product portfolio decision… By partnering with 10:10 Games and utilizing the best creators in the business, we will have the talent to deliver games that reflect Funko’s unique look and feel across its lines and varied products.”

What Game is Funko Toys Developing?
Little is known about the game, but we do know it will be an “action-platformer” that’s rated T for Teen. We’re hoping for something akin to the action-packed Super Meat Boy or maybe a new take on side-scrollers altogether.
According to a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, developers Jon Burton and Arthur Parsons, two seasoned developers who worked on “several LEGO games” with Traveller’s Tales studios, are now on team 1010 Games and creating the new platformer. Since the LEGO games are so solid, we expect some quality work from the group. Though it’s early in the process, the game is slated to release sometime in 2023.

The trailer starts with a kid-friendly tone but then quickly devolves into a heavy-metal intense scene of Funko’s premier character, Freddy, rocking out to a riff that reminds us of Metalocalypse. If the tone of the music matches the tone of the actual game, we’re in for something truly special.
What is Funko?
Funko designs, sources, and distributes licensed pop culture products, including vinyl figures, board games, action toys, apparel, and more. They are probably best known for their dolls that tie in famous stars from Disney, Marvel, NFL, and other pop-culture tie-ins.
