As you enter tier 2 in Farthest Frontier, the desirability mechanic in the game starts to become an issue. Desirability is a metric that your housing structures use to determine where citizens want to live. You won’t be able to upgrade your basic shelters until they have a location desirability bonus of at least 30%. Read on and learn how to increase your Farthest Frontier housing desirability.
How to Improve Desirability in Farthest Frontier
To improve the housing desirability in Farthest Frontier, you must construct buildings that provide a positive desirability bonus within a specified range of your neighborhoods.
When you hover over a building, the top right of the info card will have a “Desirability” indicator. It will either show a green arrow for desirable, a yellow dash for neutral, or a red arrow for undesirable. Buildings with red or green arrows will have degrees of desirability, one arrow signifying a moderate boost while two arrows signify a significant boost.
To improve your desirability, first make sure to build undesirable buildings such as mines, compost yards, saw pits, and others far away from your housing. Close to your neighborhoods, make sure to build desirable buildings such as:
- Town Center (low boost)
- Basic Well (low boost)
- Market (low boost)
- Healer’s House (low boost)
- School (low boost)
- Pub (low boost)
- Theatre (high boost)
- Bakery (low boost)
- Small Garden (low boost)
- Large Park (high boost)
Many buildings across multiple tiers will give your housing desirability bonuses, especially when grouped together. The decoration category of buildings is found at the bottom of the buildings list, and is an easy way to get a desirability boost. Small gardens and plazas are great for filling gaps between buildings or roads and can provide you with compound bonuses.
In summary, to improve your desirability bonuses, follow these general rules:
- Group undesirable manufacturing buildings into districts and place them far away from your primary neighborhoods
- Place desirability boosted buildings within and around your housing districts
- Place gardens, parks, statues, and places within and around your housing districts
And those are the basics of what you need to know about Desirability in the Farthest Frontier!
