Mount and Blade Bannerlord: How to Equip a Standard or Banner

Do you want your soldiers to carry around those little flags? Here's how to equip Standards or Banners in Mount and Blade Bannerlord.

Have you accumulated dozens of Standards in Bannerlord? Need to learn how to equip them? Well–you’re not alone. Unlike other items within Bannerlord, players equip Standards or Banners slightly differently in Bannerlord. Here’s a quick guide on how to equip a standard/banner in Mount and Blade Bannerlord.

Standards in Mount and Blade Bannerlord are special flags that provide special buffs to your army as long as your forces carry them. When the Standard carrier falls in battle, another soldier will replace him and take charge with your Banner. Standards will have the iconography that you created when creating your Clan.

Equipping a Standard Or Banner

To equip a Standard or Banner in Mount and Blade Bannerlord:

  • Hold left-click and drag the Banner into your empty Banner slot.
  • Xbox users use the A button.
  • PlayStation users use the X button.

And that’s it! Yes, we know this is a bit obtuse, considering that many of you probably use the Equip button to put items on your characters. Alas, Banners and Standards are the only items that don’t do this.

All is not a waste, though–now you know how to more quickly equip items… or at least an alternative way to equip items in Bannerlord.

Where to Get Standards in Bannerlord

To get more Standards or Banners in Bannerlord, defeat armies. More powerful armies will have more powerful standards–and some Heros will have exceptional Standards you can obtain after defeating them in battle.

If you haven’t gotten a Standard yet, it’s probably because you haven’t faced a legit army led by a Lord. You won’t always get Standards, but the larger the battle, the more likely they drop, at least in our experience.

Beating the main quest in the game will grant access to the Dragon Banner, which increases damage done to mounted troops.
