MultiVersus, the wacky brawler game with Warner Bros. characters, will officially close Open Beta servers starting June 25, 2023.
Remember MultiVersus, the online PvP brawler developed by Player First Games and published by Warner Bros. Games? It wasn’t too long ago that the game was touted as one of the most highly-anticipated fighting games out there. However, since its launch in July of 2022, the player base shrunk significantly after less than a year into open beta.
Today, the game’s developers explained that Open Beta servers will officially go offline starting on June 25, 2023, to make way for the official full launch of the game sometime in early 2024. According to the announcement,
“To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.
I’m sure you’re wondering what this means for you. During this downtime, all online modes and features will be unavailable. You will have limited offline access to the training room (known as The Lab) and local matches, along with access to your characters and cosmetic items within these modes.”
While this might be disappointing, especially for those that have already invested in in-game cosmetics and the Open Beta battle passes, players will be able to continue using them upon the game’s official launch and in the game’s training mode and local matches.
The game will be unavailable for download starting April 4, 2023.
MultiVersus, while originally wildly popular, has lost some of its initial momentum, falling from a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on the platform before dipping to an average of under 1,000 concurrent players on Steam every day, according to SteamDB.
